New Oct. 1 Home Releases Include ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ ‘Speak No Evil,’ ‘The 4:30 Movie’ Digitally

Among the home entertainment titles arriving Oct. 1 are digital releases for Deadpool & Wolverine, Speak No Evil and The 4:30 Movie, while new disc releases include The Gilded Age: Season 2 and Paramount Scares Vol. 2.

Marvel Studios’ superhero buddy action/comedy Deadpool & Wolverine will be released across digital retail channels beginning Oct. 1. The third “Deadpool” film finds Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) teaming up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to stop the destruction of his universe. Deadpool & Wolverine is the highest-grossing ‘R’-rated theatrical release, and No. 5 all-time box office title within the Marvel Cinematic Universe with more than $1.33 billion in worldwide ticket sales. It arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD disc Oct. 22.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release the Blumhouse-produced thriller Speak No Evil for premium digital rental and sale starting Oct. 1. The film stars James McAvoy as a charismatic alpha-male whose untrammeled hospitality masks an unspeakable darkness when he invites a family of vacationing Americans to his idyllic country estate for a weekend getaway. The cast also includes Aisling Franciosi, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Alix West Lefler and Dan Hough. Speak No Evil earned $28.1 million at the domestic box office. A Blu-ray Disc and DVD release is slated for Nov. 19.

Lionsgate will release writer-director Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie for digital purchase Oct. 1. The semi-autobiographical teen comedy is set in the summer of 1986 and follows three 16-year-old friends — Brian (Austin Zajur), Burny (Nicholas Cirillo) and Belly (Reed Northrup) — who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local cineplex. When Brian invites the girl of his dreams (Siena Agudong) to see an ‘R’-rated film, his plan goes awry thanks to a self-important theater manager (Ken Jeong) and teen rivalries. The film includes cameos from Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Jason Biggs, Jason Lee, Adam Pally and more. It arrives on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD Nov. 5.

Shout! Studios Oct. 1 releases The Wasp,  a psychological thriller about two estranged childhood friends, Heather (Naomie Harris) and Carla (Natalie Dormer), who reunite for a cup of tea after not having spoken in many years. At their meeting, Heather presents a very unexpected proposition that will change their lives forever. The film will be available for rental or purchase on all major digital platforms, including Fandango at Home and Prime Video. Directed by BAFTA Award nominee Guillem Morales and adapted by Morgan Lloyd Malcom from her acclaimed play of the same name, The Wasp had its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.

The sci-fi fantasy family adventure Treasure Trackers will be released via on demand Oct. 1 from Level 33 Entertainment. The film follows a trio of misfit kids who band together to search for mythic treasure, only to uncover a terrible curse. The trio must find and destroy the gold before a rival group of teens gets to it first and releases an evil spirit on Halloween night. Directed by Drew Garcia and Nate Garcia (Hero, Five Star Scottie, The Lighthouse), Treasure Trackers stars Charity Rose  (Lost in Tomorrow, Scars and Piggy Bank Proposition), Amelia Salazar (Love’s Fast Lane, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: the Kristine Carlson Story, “The Bay”), Sean Jay (“Atlanta,” “I Got a Story to Tell”), Kim Sandwich (“Phrase Seven,” Happy Birthday, Resisting Roots), Zephaniah Terry  (Big George Foreman, “Ruthless,” Out on a Lim, “Tough Love: Atlanta”), and Sam Coffelt (“Building With Batman” host).

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment will release The Gilded Age: The Complete Second Season on DVD Oct. 1. The DVD set includes all eight episodes from the second season of the HBO historical drama. Season two begins on Easter 1883, with Bertha Russell’s bid for a box at the Academy of Music rejected. Over eight episodes, Bertha challenges Mrs. Astor and the old system to gain a foothold in Society. George Russell battles a growing union at his Pittsburgh steel plant. Marian secretly teaches at a girls’ school, while Ada starts a new courtship, to Agnes’s disapproval. In Brooklyn, the Scott family heals from a shocking discovery, and Peggy becomes an activist through her work at the NY Globe. The cast includes Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Ben Ahlers, Michael Cerveris, Kelley Curran and Taissa Farmiga. The Gilded Age is a co-production between HBO and Universal Television. Julian Fellowes (“Downton Abbey”) is the creator, writer and executive producer. Other executive producers include Gareth Neame, David Crockett, Sonja Warfield (writer), Michael Engler, Salli Richardson-Whitfield  and Bob Greenblatt.

Paramount Home Entertainment Oct. 1 will release Paramount Scares Vol. 2, the next boxed set collecting four of the studio’s horror films on 4K Ultra HD for the first time. The eight-disc set includes Friday the 13th Part II, Orphan: First Kill, World War Z and Breakdown on both 4K Ultra HD disc and Blu-ray Disc in an individual case and special sleeve exclusive to the set, all housed in a premium box with original artwork. The set also includes digital copies of each film, and the unrated version of World War Z. The collection also offers more than 2.5 hours of bonus content, plus collectible items including a full-size Fangoria magazine produced specifically for this release with new and classic articles about the films; four unique iron-on patches representing each film; a domed “Paramount Scares” logo sticker; a new “Paramount Scares” glow-in-the-dark enamel pin; and a limited-edition poster by artist Orlando “Mexifunk” Arocena.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment will release the 1984 supernatural slasher film A Nightmare on Elm Street, from New Line Cinema and renowned horror director Wes Craven, for purchase digitally in 4K Ultra HD on Oct. 1 for its 40th anniversary. A Nightmare on Elm Street, which spawned a franchise and introduced audiences to iconic horror villain Freddy Krueger,  was directed by Craven (Scream) from his own screenplay and stars John Saxon, Ronee Blakely, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Nick Corri, Johnny Depp and Robert Englund. The 4K UHD remaster of A Nightmare on Elm Street includes both the 1984 theatrical version of the film and an uncut version of the film that includes eight seconds of additional unrated footage. It arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc on Oct. 15.

The documentary Age of Humans will be released on DVD Oct. 1 from Virgil Films and Entertainment. The documentary explores the evolution of humanity — from our humble beginnings walking the plains of Africa to becoming a dominant species through cooperation. Our relatively quick rise to dominance comes with a high cost — not just for humans, but for all species on Earth.
